Chef Prasad Chirnomula of THALI Restaurant in New Canaan
Closes One Chapter to Begin Anew
November 6, 2015, New Canaan: Since coming to America in 1985 and introducing both traditional and contemporary Indian cuisine to Connecticut consumers, Chef Prasad Chirnomula has distinguished himself as one of the area’s most innovative and exuberant restaurateurs. His passion for his native Indian cuisine has had the unique effect of educating American palates to the bold, aromatic, and flavorful cuisine of India.
On Sunday, November 15, Chef Chirnomula will be closing the doors of his flagship Thali restaurant on Main Street in New Canaan. This stunning restaurant, bar and event space opened its doors in 1998, introducing customers to this relatively new cuisine, making its mark on local food enthusiasts. The closing of the large restaurant space merely allows Chef Chirnomula the opportunity to open a different, more intimate restaurant in New Canaan where folks will still be able to enjoy Thali’s elevated Indian cuisine.
“It’s been a blessing to be a part of this community for all these years, “beams Chef Chirnomula, “The new space will provide guests with a more intimate dining experience and, of course, our robust take-out and private party business will continue.”
To celebrate this new chapter, starting Monday, November 9 Thali will be presenting a week-long celebration to honor its loyal customers and showcase the dishes that have made this establishment one of the most celebrated Indian restaurants in the country. Beginning Monday, November 9th, Thali will feature one-night only specials like Lobster Vindaloo, Hyderabadi Biryani, My Mother’s Goat Curry, Goan Prawn Balchao & Prawn Peri Peri, Kerala Fish Curry, and of course their signature lamb chops.
Saturday night, November 14th, the celebration escalates with a limited seating reprise of Chef Chirnomula’s triumphant 2007 James Beard Dinner. Thali is the only Connecticut restaurant to be honored with two James Beard House Dinners (2007 and 2011). The menu is extraordinary and has drawn praise from food critics.
James Beard Dinner
Includes an amazing selection of wines from Chef Chirnomula and Thali's Cellars.
As a final, climactic bow, Thali New Canaan will host "Brunch without Limits" on Sunday, Nov.15th. The event will star live chefs creating signature Thali dishes and breads to order. The event will also feature music and open bar.
