New Restaurant Features Market-Fresh Seafood and Rooftop Gathering Place

April 1, 2024, Norwalk, CT: The highly anticipated restaurant opening at 16 North Main Street in South Norwalk revealed itself in early March as The Pompano, a vibrant coastal seafood restaurant concept presented by seasoned restaurateur Christian Burns. No stranger to the local culinary landscape throughout the state, Burns, whose restaurant cred includes The Ginger Man in Greenwich and the former Cask Republic, elevated beer-centric taverns throughout Fairfield and New Haven Counties, created The Pompano in the former space of Evarito’s, his Mexican inspired restaurant and rooftop bar which closed post-COVID.

“The allure for me has always been this amazing location in the heart of SoNo and the space (100+ seating capacity) that offers a variety of layers to one’s dining experience, “says Burns of the restaurant’s spacious high-ceiling main floor and its rooftop bar/restaurant, “The Pompano fits into the space perfectly,  aligning itself with contemporary dining trends and rooted in high-quality cuisine, while infusing a more casual ethos with its large bar and rooftop bar and dining options.”

The Pompano’s refreshing design aesthetic is wrapped in white brick, icy blue banquet seating, wood furnishings, an open kitchen, spirited photography of Burns’ (and friends’ and patrons’) fishing escapades, a streetside panoramic view of a bustling South Norwalk, and a rooftop view of the beautiful Long Island Sound and Norwalk’s local boating community. The decor and the menu are designed to bring a slice of South Florida's coastal charm to the Northeast.

The menu is prepared by Executive Chef Franz Fruhmann, who comes to The Pompano by way of such prestigious kitchens as Bouley and Raoul's in NYC, North Star in Pound Ridge, NY, and the trendsetting “local and sustainable” restaurant The Dressing Room in Westport, CT.

Menu highlights start with Bluefin Tuna Tartare with tomato concassé, avocado mousse, and soy, Caviar Service with classic accompaniments, a Warm Crab and Asparagus Salad, and a Wood-Grilled Caesar with croutons and grana padano snow. Made-to-order sushi is prepared to order at the Pompano sushi bar.  In addition to lobster rolls every which way, seafood entrées include halibut with artichoke puree, roasted peppers, and meyer lemon, and fresh linguine and clams draped in garlic, white wine, lemon, and parsley.  A customized dining experience can be enjoyed with The Pompano’s “Simple Market Fish” section, where guests can choose any market fish to be prepared wood-grilled or sautéed, plus 2 side dishes of their choice. Carnivorous offerings include a wood-fired 14oz prime strip served with Pompano fries, spinach, and chimichurri, and a favorite comfort food dish of roast chicken with spinach, pureed potatoes, and natural jus. The Pompano consistently strives to responsibly source from local purveyors and trusted sustainable fisheries.

Creative cocktails, local craft brews, a curated wine list, including a wine coravin program featuring premium wine by the glass pours, plus house-made desserts from seasonal fruit-inspired creations to decadent chocolate inventions, complement the dining experience.

The Pompano Rooftop (seating capacity 90/bar 18/bar area 18/private party rental) is a stunning and social extension of the restaurant, with breathtaking views of the surrounding coastal community and the Long Island Sound, and its local harbors. Full bar service is available, along with raw bar and sushi and a variety of favorite seafood fare such as lobster rolls, whole steamed lobsters, crab cakes, rooftop shaka shrimp, fried oyster basket, palm beach salad (shrimp, crab, crab, avocado, egg), and a unique menu line up of crusted South Florida style crusted fish (sweet potato crusted, yuca crusted, coconut crusted), plus tuna burgers, fried flounder and crispy oyster sandwiches, and more!
