February 12, 2025, Norwalk, CT: Himalaya SoNo is preparing to open its culturally rich restaurant, bar, music venue, and retail shop on February 26, 2025. This day is the Hindu celebration of Shiva, recognized as a time for spiritual awakening. Restaurateur Nwang Sherpa, a proud immigrant from Nepal, is expanding the Himalaya brand, which has earned a stellar reputation and numerous awards, including Zagat’s Best and Restaurant Guru achievements in its Westchester County locations. Part of real estate collective AGWPartners’ portfolio and the popular OnWashington brand, Himalaya will open at 99 Washington Street in South Norwalk, CT.

Himalaya SoNo embraces the flavors of Nepali-Tibetan fusion cuisine, prepared with fresh, organic Himalayan herbs and spices. Menu highlights include handmade momos (dumplings), a variety of korma (almond and cashew sauce) and curry dishes from throughout the region, tandoori meats and shrimp, the always popular chicken tikka masala, spicy vindaloo, noodle and rice dishes, and a wide variety of vegetarian-friendly specialties such as chana saag (chickpeas in spinach gravy) and dal (lentils) makhini.

The large space has been completely transformed into a multi-sensory experience. The restaurant is wrapped in stunning large-format Himalayan artwork and artistic details characteristic of the vast Himalayan region of artists and craftsmen. A performance stage with state-of-the-art lighting and a sound system will house vibrant cultural events featuring traditional dances and live Himalayan instrumental music. An expansive patio can be enjoyed in season and will be used for dining, art activations, and pop-up markets. Upon entering, guests are greeted by a charming gift shop filled with vibrant housewares, jewelry, clothing, and unique gifts that embody Himalayan culture. Customers can take home a piece of this rich heritage.

Owner Nwang “Anthony” Sherpa is excited to introduce his cuisine and culture to Norwalk. This enthusiastic entrepreneur came to the States at the age of 18 to attend Commonwealth University in Mansfield, PA, to study business. After a lucrative career in finance, he transitioned into real estate before seizing the opportunity to own/operate Himalaya in Scarsdale, NY. Anthony brought his business acumen to the restaurant and his love for Nepali culture and hospitality, taking the Himalayan brand to a new level. Today, Anthony is proud to employ people from the Himalayan region, allowing them to live and work in the US and pursue their dreams. Anthony is also on the leadership team for NSSP, The Network of SherpaStudents and Professionals, an organization based in Westchester County, which provides support for Sherpa students, graduates, and professionals through social, professional, educational, and cultural activities.
